Welcome to my Blog

My name is Ivaylo Ivanov and I’m a programmer who loves C++. I’m working in the gaming industry and in the I’ve held senior and principle positions as well as leadership roles such as Technical Director and Lead AI Programmer. I decided to start this Hello C++blog because of my passion for the language. I will be writing about various aspects of the language and tools infrastructure. I’ll try to cover the full range of extremely basic to very advanced concepts. I hope that over time this blog will become a useful collection of articles about C++.

My Background

I started coding in my teens and in my early 20s I started in the gaming industry as a Gameplay Programmer. Very quickly I found my passion in AI. I spent the last 10 years in the field of AI. First as an AI Programmer in Guerrilla Games working on KIllzone Shadowfall and Horizon Zero Dawn. Then as a Senior AI programmer working on Hitman 2016. Then as an AI Lead Programmer working on Hitman 2. And then as a Technical Director working on an unannounced title.

I found my true passion for C++ in Guerrilla Games during the development of Horizon Zero Dawn, but I truly dived deep in the language when I joined IO Interactive. You can check my more detailed background on my LinkedIn profile.

Main Mission

Hello C++ is where I share my passion for this amazing language, learn new aspects of the language and pass on what I learned. My hope is that over time there will be a good collection of useful post for all programming levels. I’ll bring my unique perspective from the gaming industry into my posts so hopefully this will make the material more entertaining and practical.

Side Mission

I would also aim to produce content for aspiring programmers that want to join the gaming industry. And in that way try to help them acquire the skills they need to break through. I have had way too many technical interviews with amazing young people with great personalities and ambitions, but without the minimal C++ knowledge to enter the industry. I hope to do some good and help young programmers with my posts.
